Today, Electronic Arts announced the name of the upcoming Star Wars tactics game. This game has been rumored for a few months, referred to as a Star Wars version of the popular tactical game series XCOM. Along with a title card, Electronic Arts shared that fans will be able to learn more about Star Wars: Zero Company on April 19th during the annual Star Wars Celebration.

Star Wars Zero Company might be set in during the Clone Wars

The new turn-based strategy game will be produced by Respawn, the team behind the Star Ward Jedi series and other games like Apex Legends and Titanfall. But it will be developed by debut studio Bit Reactor, which is made up of industry veterans that have worked on other great strategy series like the previously mentioned XCOM and Civilization. The Star Wars Jedi games have been well received, but the most recent Star Wars video game, Star Wars Outlaws, reportedly did not meet publisher Ubisoft’s expectations, which bucks the usual trend that the powerful franchise name brings to sales numbers.

Along with the title, Star Wars Zero Company, today’s announcement also revealed an image with five different characters featured. In the background we can see what looks like a character wearing Mandalorian armor, a clone trooper, an alien Jedi wielding a green lightsaber, as well as a character in a full space suit. While the Mandalorian looks somewhat like popular character Boba Fett, it’s not yet clear who any of these characters are.

There is one character in the foreground, and while this is not confirmed, the character bears a striking resemblance to the star of the TV show Andor set to release later this month. If this is the case, it seems odd that the marketing wouldn’t capitalize on it though. One last detail is that this character is holding a hologram device that appears to be displaying a Battle Droid. These are the common enemies in the Clone Wars period of Star Wars lore, which adds up with a Clone Trooper being featured as well. This could give us a hint as to what time period this game will be set in.

We can expect to learn more about this new Star Wars game later this weekend, with the promise of a full gameplay reveal. As this is a turn-based strategy game, the action might not reach the same highs as something like Jedi: Survivor. One way or another, this weekend’s reveal could determine the future for Star Wars video games in general.
