Survarium servers will be shut down before the holidays. A farewell event awaits loyal players. Developers from Vostok Games are working on a yet undisclosed FPS based on a „famous brand”.

Survarium Servers Shut Down Before Leaving Early Access.

IN A NUTSHELL:

Survarium servers will be closed before the end of May;
Until then, the game is expected to function pretty much as usual, and special bonuses will be prepared for the players;
In April, the monetization systems and technical support will be switched off. Before closing the servers, a special event will be organized;
Vostok Games is currently working on a first-person "AAA shooter based on a famous brand";
The game may be powered by Unreal Engine, and its universe will probably resemble James Cameron's Avatar, at least in some aspects.

Before an era of Escape from Tarkov we had Survarium. After reports about the closure GSC Game World (creators of series S.T.A.L.K.E.R. currently back in the game) in 2011, many of the developers working there moved to 4A Games, the responsible for Metro games, while others decided to start their own team, Vostok Games.

In 2021, these developers announced a free MMOFPS focused on PvP clashes, called Survarium, drawing handfuls from Stalker games;
On April 2, 2015, the title debuted on Steam in early access;
Survarium's activity record on Steam was slightly over 4 thousand (set seven years ago). At the moment, 371 players are present in the title.

Today the creators informed the servers of Survarium will be shut down by the end of May.

Until the end of March, the title is expected to function as usual;
In early April, monetization and technical support of the game will be turned off. Each player will receive 50 thousand gold and 500 thousand silver to try out all available equipment;
Before the deactivation of game servers Survarium will host be a special farewell event. After that, the game will disappear from Steam;

In the aforementioned announcement we read:

"After almost ten years since the start, the time has come to close the book of Survarium. This decision has been under consideration for a long time, but we delayed it as much as we could because we realize how important and special the project has become to many of you. And thus is a decision made with a grieved heart.

We are immensely thankful to every player who has been with Survarium throughout its history - for your support, your constructive criticism, for the time devoted to the game - these have been fantastic years together! We believe and hope to continue this mutual path together in the future - with the Vostok Games projects to come. (...)

On a separate note, we would like to particularly mention the players who have greatly contributed to the development of Survarium. Your efforts and support will not be forgotten!"

The next chapter

New project by Vostok Games

In addition to the farewell, the developers at Vostok Games have also announced that after the closure of Survarium they will "focus fully" on the new project, which is already in production;
According to the official website of the studio, the project will be a first-person "AAA shooter based on a famous brand".

Job descriptions as hints

The studio is currently recruiting people to work on a new project.
In the job description of a 3D environment designer - and several others - the devs mention Unreal Engine 4. It is likely to power the mystery position;
The job description of a technical game designer suggests that the game is to emphasize the story;
The job description of a character animator suggests the use of motion capture sessions and emphasis on physics and "realistic movement";
The world depicted in the game may in some ways resemble the planet Pandora from Cameron's Avatar. Next to the requirements for environment concept artists it states:

"A relevant portfolio of your work (must include Concept Art and ideally, examples with a fluid/organic nature - remembering Pandora, "It's kinda the Garden of Eden with teeth and claws" James Cameron)").

Phoenix from the Ashes

In 2014, GSC Game World returned to the world of the living, and in 2018 the devs announced (for the second time) a game called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, which is scheduled for release on December 8 on PC and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Paradise(s) for stalkers

The aforementioned Escape from Tarkov is not the only game similar to Survarium;
A free alternative is a very popular mod called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly, which does not require installation of any S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game;
An independent Russian shooter Pioner is also in the pipeline, which may be released this year. It is strongly inspired by the works of GSC Game World and will be an MMOFPS as well;
Chernobylite is another title worth recommending, whose action takes place in the Exclusion Zone around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The game offers a non-linear story combined with exploration of the world divided into a series of locations.
