Tales of Arise Won't be Getting a Sequel

Tales of Arise will not get a sequel. Even the fact that it's the fastest-selling game in the series didn't help.

Tales of Arise, the action jRPG released last year by Bandai Namco Entertainment, will not live to see a sequel. This was informed by the managing producer Hirokazu Kagawa in an interview with Edge.

  1. This decision was made despite the fact that it is the fastest-selling installment of the brand.
  2. This does not mean that the entire series will be shelved. There will be new games, but they will not be direct continuations to Tales of Arise.
  3. The reason is the fact that the creators of Tales of Arise developed the game as a closed story that does not require any additions or sequels to deliver the planned experience.
  4. Instead of creating a direct continuation, the authors want to focus on developing something new, which will again raise the bar for the whole franchise.
  5. At the same time, it was mentioned that Bandai Namco Entertainment wants to make it easier for players to explore older installments of the series. No specifics were revealed, but rumors have been circulating for some time that the company is preparing remasters of earlier games.

It should be added that most games in the series have never received direct sequels. However, a few were created, including Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Destiny 2 and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, so many people thought that the next sequel might be Tales of Arise 2, especially taking into account the game's excellent sales results. However, the devs decided otherwise.

At the end it is worth mentioning that the creators of Tales of Arise highly praise cooperation with other teams. Hirokazu Kagawa said that the latest installment benefited a lot from sharing technological ideas with the created in parallel Scarlet Nexus.

Tales of Arise debuted on September 10, 2021 simultaneously on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
