The black streak of layoffs in the game industry continues. The latest studio to be forced to downsize is Telltale Games.

  1. The case was announced by artist Jonah Huang, who worked on, among others, The Walking Dead: Michonne, Minecraft: Story Mode, Batman: The Telltale Series and Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series. After the studio closed in 2018, he was fired along with virtually the entire staff. When the company was resurrected in 2019, Huang rejoined. This time he worked on The Wolf Among Us 2.
  2. According to Jonah Huang, in early September this year Telltale Games laid off most of its employees. The contract he signed as part of his severance package prevents him from commenting on the status of work on The Wolf Among Us 2, so he was limited to reporting on the layoffs themselves.
  3. The moods of Telltale Games' now former employees are exacerbated by the fact that, just a few weeks ago, the company bought out British studio Flavourworks.
  4. Initially Telltale Games remained silent, but eventually after a few hours the company confirmed the layoffs, although it did not provide information on their scale. The studio also assured that projects currently in development are safe.

The Expanse and The Wolf Amond Us 2 - current status

The fifth and final episode of the studio's latest game - The Expanse: A Telltale Series - was released on September 21, this year. However, there is also a bonus episode in production, which is due to be released this fall. For this project, however, much of the work is being done by Deck Nine, so layoffs at Telltale itself should not sink these plans.

Of greater concern are gamers waiting for The Wolf Among Us 2. While Telltale Games assures that this project is safe, it's hard to give full credence to these words, given the scale of the layoffs described by Jonah Huang. It is possible that this project could be taken over by Flavourworks. The team has focused mainly on movie and TV shows in the past, but it also has an FMV adventure game to its credit, titled Erica.

Also not to be forgotten is The Wolf Among Us 2 has had a variety of problems in recent years. Finally, in March it was informed that the game will not be released this year. Something tells us that in the near future we can expect more announcements concerning the adventure game based on the Tales comic book series .
