Here's How the Special Effects for The Mandalorian Were Created

Industrial Light & Magic released a video on their youtube channel showing how special effects were created for The Mandalorian.

SPOILER ALERT!

The following text contains spoilers from the last episode of The Mandalorian.

Two days ago, specialists from Industrial Light and Magic released a short video on YouTube, showing the creation of special effects for The Mandalorian. In the material, you can see, among other things, how the krayt dragon was animated, as well as how the creators successfully combined practical effects with CGI. Five ILM branches, in San Francisco, Singapore, Vancouver, London and Sydney, were involded in work on the eight episodes. The hard work paid off as the series received 13 nominations for the Visual Effects Society Awards. The footage can be found below.

Fans may notice that the video does not include one of the most important scenes of the second season, i.e. the appearance of Luke Skywalker in the finale of the last episode. The iconic character was once again played by Mark Hamill, who has been digitally rejuvenated in the likeness of Princess Leia from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, on the Resistance Broadcast podcast, animation director Hal Hickel talked about the day the finale was shot, so the interview can be seen as a supplement to ILM's video.

Fans will have to wait a few more months for the next season of The Mandalorian. The only confirmed information is that it will not feature Gina Carano, who was fired by Disney in very controversial circumstances.
