The Press has Played Dune: Spice Wars; Promises to be a Solid Game

The first early access reviews of Dune: Spice Wars are coming in. They show that we will get a good title, but not without flaws.

Coming to early access tomorrow is Dune: Spice Wars, an RTS with 4X elements in a science fiction universe created by writer Frank Herbert. As a result, the first journalists' opinions about the newest work by Shiro Games appeared on the Internet. They show that we are dealing with a good title, which, however, is not without some flaws.

Arrakis beautiful and dangerous, but small

The action of the game takes place on the planet Arrakis - the place builds claustrophobic atmosphere very well. According to the editor of Eurogamer, the map, on which we play, is very small for a 4X production.. In addition, some areas are blocked for basic units (for example, by strong winds).

As if that wasn't enough, Arrakis is also inhabited by giant sandworms. When provoked, they will emerge from the ground and attack nearby units.

Diplomacy raises mixed feelings

In the early access for Dune: Spice Wars we get four factions - Atreides, Harkonnen, Smugglers and Fremen. In the case of each of them we will play as the commander-in-chief, who is accompanied by advisors (whom we choose ourselves).

All groups have their own unique characteristics that affect the gameplay. For example, the Atreides and Harkonnens have representation in the Landsraad, or space senate. The other two factions, on the other hand, must gather a resource called Influence and use it to influence the proceedings behind the scenes.

Journalists do not agree on the diplomacy mechanics. According to IGN the whole system is quite extensive, yet easy to understand. Journalist from Rock, Paper, Shotgun points out, on the other hand, that it is limited.

Uncomplicated combat

When it comes to combat, reviewers are rather unanimous. The mechanics are simple, but can give a lot of satisfaction. As the game progresses we unlock new units, which we can use in battles. However, the fact that the number of troops we can field is limited makes things more difficult.

Summary

There are also many minor problems, which were pointed out by reviewers. For example, the issue of difficult to define victory conditions was raised, as well as not always clever artificial intelligence. In the end, however general opinion is positive.

Of course, we should keep in mind that we are talking about a game debuting in early access. So you can expect that some of the problems will be eliminated over time.
