Triss almost got married in The Witcher 3, but the wedding quest was eventually cut. And no, it wasn’t meant to be with Geralt

Dataminers reveal scrapped The Witcher 3 quest featuring Triss’s wedding. It was set to end in drama, but at least we would have been there to witness it all.

The hype around The Witcher 4 tech demo has calmed down a bit, and now all that’s left is to wait for another gameplay trailer. A lot of former developers have returned to CD Projekt RED to work on the new game, and the good news is it’s no longer mainly aimed for PC. So console players probably don’t need to worry too much about launch day. But before that, let’s take a moment to look back at The Witcher 3, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. Did you know Harts of Stone DLC marriage ceremony wasn’t the only one planned? Dataminers uncovered a scrapped Triss wedding buried in the game’s files.

The Triss quest that never made it

There’s an unused quest called “Ashen Marriage” described in the document released by dataminers. From what we can tell, it’s set in Novigrad and centers on Triss’s relationship with an aristocrat named Edmund Castello. Triss has fallen for him pretty hard and wants to get married as soon as possible, and Geralt’s supposed to help make that happen.

Triss insists that her wish to marry comes from genuine feelings, not as some kind of revenge on Geralt after their breakup. The player’s task is to clear monsters from the canals where the wedding will happen and make sure there’s plenty of booze for the guests. You also have to pick out a gift for Triss. Jaskier suggests The Rose of Remembrance from one of the quests in The Witcher 2. We can either take his advice or go for a different option.

Things get shady when Dijkstra spots Edmund chatting with witch hunters. But as things become clearer, Edmund isn’t planning to turn Triss over to them, but he is being blackmailed by some group that knows about his daughter from a previous marriage.

Geralt can decide to spill the truth to Triss either solo or with Edmund there. If he does it alone, Triss ends up feeling betrayed and calls off the wedding. If Edmund joins in, Triss still appreciates the honesty but thinks the whole wedding idea is rushed. And yes, all this drama unfolds during the ceremony.

Meanwhile, that gift from Geralt can’t just go to waste. Triss would be really happy with The Rose of Remembrance. It hits those old feelings just right. But if you pick something like a trinket or bouquet, she’d probably respond without much excitement.

It’s a real shame we never got to see this quest. I was really hoping it might be added with the new The Witcher 3 DLC, but as we all know, that’s not happening. All we can do now is appreciate the work of modders. Like the ones who recently added Beauclair Palace, the grand residence of Her Enlightened Ladyship Anna Henrietta.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
