Harry Potter fans would like to see Nicholas Hoult in the HBO Max series after the actor failed to play the main character in the movies.
Many young actors have applied for leading roles in the Harry Potter movies. This included Nicholas Hoult, who today is the star of the upcoming Superman movie, in which he plays Lex Luthor. But he didn’t appear in the films about the young wizard.
But during a recent interview with Today, he was asked if he would be interested in starring in the Harry Potter TV series, for which new actors are still being sought and will be in future years as well. Hoult joked that he’s “a little bit too old to play Harry now.”
I love Mark [Mylod] as a director and I love those stories. I think I’m a little bit too old to play Harry now, though.
Craig Melvin, who was interviewed Hoult, suggested that the actor should play someone else, to which he replied that they’re “great stories,” but didn’t continue the subject further. The aforementioned Mark Mylod is a director with whom Hoult previously collaborated on The Menu, and who is now executive producer and director of some episodes of the Harry Potter TV series. So the men know each other very well, and who knows, perhaps they would be interested in working together again.
But although the role that he didn’t get in his youth is now out of his reach, it doesn't mean that there is nothing for him in the rich Harry Potter universe, after all, the series features more than just child characters. There are also many adult characters, and HP fans already have an idea of who Hoult could play. They suggest James Potter, Sirius Black or Gilderoy Lockhart.
The last idea may seem surprising at first, but looking at recent photos of Hoult, who dyed his hair blond, one can see the potential of such casting. But the other two roles seem even more suited to him – he would look convincing both as Harry's father and his godfather.
