Microsoft Chases After Competitors; New Features for Xbox App on PC Inbound

Installing games purchased from Microsoft Store or present in Xbox Game Pass on PC will soon be much more pleasant. Soon, the Xbox app for PC should add the option to easily put game files in any folder with unlimited access to them.

IN A NUTSHELL
  1. Soon (probably before December 8) Xbox app on PC should receive a new update;
  2. It will enable us to freely install games from Microsoft Store and Xbox Game Pass to any folder with unlimited access;
  3. This will allow for easier modding.

Installing and then enjoying games purchased from Microsoft Store or available through the Xbox Game Pass service isn't particularly convenient on PC. The Xbox app available on PC saves the day, but it still lacks a lot of features offered by the competition, such as Steam. However, the Redmond giant does not intend to stay behind and is working on making its services work as well as possible. As reported by The Verge (and later was confirmed by Microsoft itself), some of the changes that are heading to the Xbox app are currently being tested internally and will soon be available to members of the Xbox Insider program. Its beta, on the other hand, will most likely debut before the December 8 release of the Halo Infinite's mulitplayer mode.

So what can we expect? First of all, the option to freely install games from Microsoft Store and Xbox Game Pass to any folder with unlimited access. Why is this so important? Mainly for convenience. In addition to opening these locations to file manipulation (previously it was very problematic due to the restrictions imposed by Windows) it allows for easier uploading of mods, which, as we know, is extremely important for many fans of, for example, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. The feature is discussed in more detail in the following video published by Microsoft.

In addition, as reported by The Verge, soon in Xbox app will add options to check and repair files, which will help with game backups, for example. It should also make it much easier to move installed games between drives.

But of course, this is not the end. As assured by Jason Beaumont from Microsoft, in the near future the Xbox app for PC should also see better optimization and will become much more friendly for game developers. Definitely better times are coming for it.
