Xbox Game Pass Brings in Lots of Money
Microsoft has revealed to Brazilian officials the revenue the company generates from Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. The amount is impressive.
Surely many people will agree with me that Xbox Game Pass offers a great deal for its subscribers. Acceptable costs compared to the wealth of content is undoubtedly a recipe for success. Until now, we could only wonder what kind of revenue this initiative generates. Now we know that it is indeed a huge amount.
Recall that last week Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) approved the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. Before this could happen, however, the Redmond giant had to provide all the necessary data to the local officials. Among them was information on revenue from Xbox Game Pass.
According to the report Xbox Game Pass generated as much as $2.9 billion in revenue in 2021.. It is worth recalling that in the same period the entire Xbox division brought Microsoft $16.28 billion (this result has been known for a long time). This means that Game Pass generated 18% of Xbox's overall revenue (via VGChartz).
However, it should be made clear that we are talking here only about Game Pass performance on consoles. PC Game Pass revenues are not included in the figures.
Finally, it's worth mentioning that Microsoft certainly pays not inconsiderable sums to game developers so that their titles can be included in the Game Pass library, so we're not sure how much the Redmond giant actually earns from its offering.
