You will start the Assigned Reading mission (of The Sinking City) at any time during the game. This side case starts when you talk to Samuel Hopes. The man is standing by the fountain near the university building in Reed Heights.

After a short conversation, you will receive a task to find three books. However, there will be many moments with simple battles where you have to use weapons.

The first book

You will pick up your first book from a student that can be found in the western part of The Shells district.

Go to Inner Shine Street, between Windsweep Road and Justice Street. Enter the building and talk to three people sitting there; then take the letter off the table. Now go upstairs and enter the locked room by destroying the padlock.

Find a trace of blood on the wall and use the Mind's Eye on it. Inspect the body and make a reconstruction of events:

1. students summon their copies,
2. doppelgangers kill students,
3. and leave the room.

Go down to the ground floor. In the corner of a room you will find a hidden wall - expose it with Mind's Eye. Take the book, but be careful, the "students" will attack you. You can't attack them before, but you can set traps next to them to make it easier. In the next room, you'll find a journal that may help in finding all necessary evidence.

Second book

Look for the second book in the building at the cemetery in Reed Heights, at Baker Street. Enter the house through the back, barricaded doors, collect a letter from the table and go upstairs. Turn left and go to the corner to collect a piece of paper from the table.

In an empty, padlocked room you will find a bookcase that can be revealed by Mind's Eye. Behind him you'll find a room and a housekeeper in paranoia. When you examine the book against the wall, the man will attack you. Now you can leave the location.

Third book

You'll find the last book by going to the city hall. Select the following search options from the archive:

1. Evidence: Finding the third book,
2. Subjects: Citizens,
3. Registry: Occupation,
4. District: Advent.

The mission point will lead you to the center of the Advent district. You'll find the house on Carpenter Street between Benevolent Tides Road and Hawthorne Avenue. You have to take a boat to get to the building.

Inside, look at the yellow figure on the table with your Mind's Eye. Under it you will find the key. Go right through the door near the toilet (take a sheet of paper from the frame) and use the Mind's Eye inside. After moving upstairs, reuse the Eye on the bloodstain wall. You'll be attacked by three tormentors as an illusion - have your weapon on standby. Take the books to your client.

For the successful completion of this side case you will receive ammunition for the revolver and a suit: Master Sleuth.
