What are we talking about here?

Battleborn, produced by the creators of the Borderlands series , is an online hero shooter, with gameplay mechanics quite difficult to classify unambiguously. The game offers several gameplay modes - a co-operative role-playing campaign and three online multiplayer modes. Among the latter there was a place for the classic PvPs involving destroying enemy bases, escort missions and something like MOBs. During the battles, players could impersonate various heroes with different skills and arsenal of weapons. Battleborn, like previous Evolve, received a free-to-play version some time after the release.

What went wrong?

On the first page of this list you had the opportunity to read about the problems Crucible was struggling with this year . Talking about Battleborn's defeat, we will use very similar arguments, which shows us that even over the course of a few years, creators are not able to draw conclusions from the mistakes made by others. Battleborn, despite a set of original characters and quite a pleasant story campaign, couldn't keep the players engaged. Among the reasons why this happened, one can mention, above all, too many different gameplay forms, which resulted in none of them being fully worked out (if something is good for everything, it is good for nothing). The game's optimization was also not at the highest level.

What is more, the game came out at a similar time as one of Blizzard's major hits - Overwatch . The creators of Battleborn really had a hard time fighting the marketing of this production, and the more experienced studio proved that they knew perfectly well what product they wanted to deliver to players. Overwatch was initially focused on one mode only, which allowed developers to release a refined game and then plan its further development.

Where did Battleborn wind up?

In 2017, the total end of Battleborn's development was announced. The game servers will be shut down in January 2021 and the game will not be possible even in single player mode.
