THE BATTLE OF POLYTOPIA IN A NUTSHELL
  1. Producer: Midjiwan

  3. Release date: February 2016

Civilization remains one of the ultimate, PC strategy classics. However, the games from series are quite complicated, and many players bounce off, overwhelmed. The Battle of Polytopia was created for these players.

The game mixes solutions from 4X strategy and distils them to the very essence. The game takes place in a turn-based system, and our goals include exploring the world, collecting resources, developing the economy, and fighting wars. All of this, however, is highly simplified, and the gameplay moves quickly. A single session, from founding an empire to victory or defeat, takes an average of 30 minutes.

Despite apparent simplicity, the game is very addictive and offers a lot of depth. An additional attraction is a large selection of various playable tribes and randomly-generated maps. All of this can be enjoyed both in solo and online multiplayer.

Mindustry

Business model: pay-to-play with microtransactions

MINDUSTRY IN A NUTSHELL
  1. Producer: AnukenDev
  2. Editor: AnukenDev
  3. Release date: June 2017

A classic move of mobile developers is bringing PC games to touch screens in a simplified form. Such operations usually produce games that are mere shadows of the originals, but every now and then, we get real gems as well. Mindustry is exactly such a gem.

The game can be described in a few words as "easier Factorio." Our task is to create a giant factory where different industrial systems are combined in optimized belts that can quickly and independently produce a variety of products.

When playing, we not only have to take care of the production of goods, but also their transport, as well as protection of the factory from enemies. Combat resembles tower defense games, so what matters most is how we prepare the defensive structure. Attention, there is clearly more fighting here than at Factorio.

The whole thing was very well executed and is a lot of fun both in the single and in multiplayer. Mindustry combines economic strategy with elements of tower defense, doing so in a way that offers more depth than most of the mobile representatives of the genre.
