The Best Strategy & RTS Games of 2021 - Editors' Choice

Although the golden era of strategy is gone, it does not mean that the genre has completely died. 2021 proves that fans can still find at least a few productions worth attention.

Table of Contents

6. HighFleet

  1. Developer: Konstantin Koshutin
  2. Platform: PC
  3. Game summary: a suspenseful strategy where you command and manage a sky fleet

HighFleet is another item on this list with just one person behind its creation. It's the work of the Russian developer Konstantin Koshutin, who decided to take players to a post-apocalyptic world on the brink of nuclear war. In the game, you take on the role of captain of a fleet of flying ships that will be crucial in your mission to destroy the capital of the enemy Kingdom of Gerat.

After watching the trailer for this production, you might get the impression that this is an arcade shoot 'em up, in which you constantly have to face up to overwhelming enemy air forces. Don't be fooled, however, as HighFleet is a purebred strategy game where deliberate decisions far outweigh dexterity.

During the game, you need to constantly manage resources and adjust the equipment of your machines. Diplomacy also plays a key role - without the support of the various factions present in the game world, you won't get far. Additionally, when playing HighFleet, you'll spend a lot of time nervously gathering electronic intelligence. The outcome of battles is often decided by who gets detected first - you or the opponent.

The game's biggest pluses:

  1. a game that constantly keeps you on your toes;
  2. the atmosphere of the post-apocalyptic world;
  3. complex fleet control mechanics.
