What exactly is Gears Tactics?
A spin-off of the Gears of War series, showing the war with the locusts not in the traditional TPP perspective, but from top-down, using a combat system reminiscent of what we know from XCOM. The game is a fruit of cooperation Coalition, who have been taking care of the Gears of War since 2014, and Splash Damage, the creators of such hits as Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and Brink .
What's the story in Gears Tactics about?
The spin-off takes place before the events depicted in the first installment of the Gears of War series and depicts the origins of the Locust war on the planet Sera. The game's main character, Gabe Diaz, aims to take out the enemy leader, Ukkon. Marcella "Specter" Trinh, Mikayla Dorn and Sid Redburn help him accomplish this dangerous task.
What's the gameplay like in Gears Tactics?
In an extended storyline campaign, the team will come face to face with swarms of locusts. The combat will be turn-based, requiring a tactical knack and promoting deliberate placing of soldiers. Each of them will have unique abilities and preferred weapons, and all of them will become deadlier as the game progresses. From time to time, we will also come face to face with powerful bosses.
OUR EXPECTATIONS
Gears Tactics was supposed to be a spin-off of the Gears of War series, but thanks to the fantastic cut-scenes and plentiful TPP sequences, there's a strong sense of a full-fledged Gears game. I feel like this will be a must-have for fans of the universe – if any of them tended to omit turn-based strategies, this is a great opportunity to change that. Fans of XCOM, on the other hand, might be tempted to take a closer look at the entire lore of the Locust war.
