It's hard to call Songs of Conquest a spiritual heir to the Heroes of Might & Magic series. In both cases, we are dealing with turn-based strategies, but beyond that, any similarities end. And that's good, because fans of "Heroes" didn't have much choice over the years, and this time they got a "breath of freshness" . Just take a look at the pixel art graphics that create the right atmosphere and make the game look good.
In Songs of Conquest we will not see an army of heroes with which we will traverse the maps. The number of characters is quite limited and sometimes you have to carefully choose who of them will you send for a fight. In the clashes themselves, the landform often makes a colossal difference, which was not the case in the Heroes of Might & Magic series. What stands out the most, however, is the city building system. They don't receive a separate screen but are erected on the world map. This creates completely new strategic possibilities when we want to block our opponent. The whole is complemented by an accessible map editor. We can easily share our creations with the rest of the community.
