The third installment of the cult historical strategy series by Paradox Interactive studio. Victoria 3 takes the player to the 19th century during the colonial era. The player's task is to lead one of many available countries to greatness.
Victoria 3 is the long-awaited third installment of Paradox Interactive historical strategy series. Game takes us back to the colonial era, from 1836 to 1936. In the game, we take control of one of many countries, leading it to greatness.
The gameplay follows the pattern often seen in other games from this company. We take on the role of the leader of one of the dozens of available countries, and our main task is to develop and expand the chosen nation. The player must balance his income and expenses and maintain diplomatic relations with other countries in order to gain allies. The game is played in real time, but we have access to a pause, which we can activate at any time to manage our state more accurately.
Victoria 3 includes an advanced economic system that allows detailed management of a country's finances. Access to rare commodities or monopolization can bring the player enormous influence. In order for the economy to function properly, it is necessary to make sure we have a labor force qualified to produce goods. A huge number of research trees, various political options and social groups allow us to customize our country and steer it in the desired direction.
We should also take care of your position on the international stage. The development of our nation often comes at the expense of another, so we must guard against the scheming of other countries on the world map. We can deter our competitors with a powerful army, defeat them diplomatically through alliances or plotting.
Victoria 3 offers both a single-player mode and multiplayer, in which each player takes control of a different country.
Similar to Paradox's other strategy games, the audiovisual setting comes down to the nitty-gritty. Game features a very complex interface with a variety of overlays and map display options, prioritizing detail over clarity.

Victoria 3 is, without a doubt, grand in scale and scope, and it's downright gorgeous, too. Sadly, the countless mechanics mean that there are too many moving parts, which lead to more questions than answers. The automation and streamlining of battle is, likewise, a baffling change. Even as a veteran of Paradox Interactive's games, this is still one series that I can't get behind.

Victoria 3 is a grand strategy game with perhaps too much depth and complexity for genre newbies, and genre veterans might find the simplified warfare a turn-off. That said, I am wholly invested. It’s the most sandboxy of the Paradox lineup so far and I’ve been enjoying my time with it immensely. It is gorgeous, impressive, and absolutely worth the time it takes to learn. Now onto my fourth playthrough. The World Welsh Order will rise, mark my words.
