NiOh 2 – samurai souls-like
Why? The first NiOh was the only souls-like not developed by From Software that offered comparable quality to Dark Souls.
- Release date: March 2020
- Genre: soulslike
- Platforms: PS4
Twelve years of work, two hard resets of the project, changes in the development team, and the final decision to create a game that had nothing to do with the original ideas – the first NiOh was born in pain. Such stories rarely end well, but this title was an exception – the game turned out an excellent souls-like, combining solutions characteristic of From Software's games with a special atmosphere of the feudal Japan, a much more complex combat system, and looting straight from Diablo.
This game will be a prequel. We will create a hero or heroine – people often joked that the protagonist of the original game was samurai Geralt, which makes me wonder if ninja-Ciri will now become the rage.
The game will be challenging again (recent beta-testing left no doubt about this), and the combat system will be more complex. This will include a completely new ability to shape-shift into a demon for a few seconds, gaining incredible power. As a rule, however, developers focus primarily on "more of the same thing" – given the quality and originality of the original, this seems a good strategy. Especially since it's the only more genuine souls-like scheduled for the first half of the next year.
