Video Games With the Best Stories

Although most games treat storytelling very instrumentally, some developers take it more seriously, creating stories that are exciting, touching and stay with us forever. We decided to create a list of games that tell the most powerful stories.

BioWare hasn't had a good streak in recent years, project after project failing to meet the expectations of players and creating disappointing games with serious technical errors or simply not generating much interest. This hurts because in their heyday they were masters of narrative games. The space opera trilogy Mass Effect, in which, as commander Shepard, we explore a creatively designed galaxy, takes the cake here.

"You can't save everyone." Mass Effect's storyline was built around this simple slogan, making the player a hero who tries to save the universe from impending doom – but also facing smaller dramas. Time, resources, opportunities are never enough to help anyone, so we have to choose who deserves to be rescued and who will have to suffer. This uncomplicated premise in a perfectly created world, full of interesting races and interesting characters, has delivered a highly exciting adventure.

The journey – despite taking across three separate games – forms one coherent whole: decisions and characters from one game could be transferred to the next one, where the consequences of previous events were still apparent. Even that infamous ending, which has generated so much controversy and continues to disappoint the fans to this day, is unable to spoil the positive image of the Mass Effect trilogy as a whole.

He started with amateur websites, which he coded himself in HTML, then he moved on to increasingly larger portals. A computer engineer, but he was always more drawn to writing than programming, and he decided to tie his future with the former. In games, he primarily looks for stories, emotions, and immersion that no other medium can provide - hence, among his favorite titles, are games focusing on narration. Believes that NieR: Automata is the best game ever made.
