A Japanese action RPG created for mobile devices. To be precise, it is a remake of Final Fantasy Adventure - a spin-off of the famous jRPG series. We play as one of the enslaved gladiators who each morning have to fight a different deadly creature on the arena for the amusement of the Dark Lord. Once the protagonist finds out that the oppressor is close to finding the legendary Tree of Mana that can grant him power over the entire world, he decides to escape and stop the villain. The action is viewed from high above, and the gameplay focuses on exploration, character development, upgrading the weaponry, solving occasional puzzles and fighting - the combat system in the game is very much arcade.

A full-fledged continuation of a science-fiction turn-based strategy developed by Mode 7 Games. In its premise, Frozen Synapse 2 doesn’t differ much from what its predecessor offered, and focuses on combat using small units, emphasizing strategic planning. The main distinguishing element of the game (and the whole series) is the fact that the encounters are turn-based, but the players make their moves simultaneously, rather than alternately. This forces a completely different approach from the players, and keeps them on their toes when anticipating the next move of their enemy. In contrast to its predecessor, Frozen Synapse 2 has a much more open world, directly resulting in bigger maps, which has an utmost impact on the strategic layer of the game. The whole game is seen from a good old top-down view, and introduces a similar stern visual style, with a rather cold color palette.

A first-person adventure game taking place in a science-fiction universe. The plot of Dome City depicts an undefined future, where humans started to settle alien planets. However, one of the cities on Mars, encased by a gigantic dome, has been abandoned by humans hundred years ago. The player, leading a trio of characters, has to discover the reasons why the colonists have deserted the settlement, and find a way to escape the Red Planet. The gameplay focuses on exploring an open world, and solving puzzles that encompass disciplines such as mathematics, physics, and astronomy. The area left at our disposal is quite vast – we can visit every part of the city, and search all buildings and rooms. Most of the challenges can be approached in a number of ways, while the decisions made during the gameplay can result in different outcomes of the story. Additionally, we need to take care of our survival, and search for necessary supplies such as food, water, or energy sources. Dome City was developed using Unreal Engine 4 technology, while the music was composed by Petri Alanko – author of soundtracks for games such as Alan Wake or Trials Fusion.

A unique mix of puzzle and arcade game with addition of roguelike’s features. It has been developed by the Canadian team at Illogika Studios. The game takes us to the titular submerged metropolis ruled by sentient machines. We play as a girl named Styx and her faithful companion Dron on their quest for revenge. Subaeria’s gameplay is based on exploration. We observe the 3D world from an isometric perspective, and since the heroine can’t use weapons, she must try to manipulate hostile robots (known as The Cleaners) to make them fight each other. This is where the little drone comes into play, as it can be used to control the robotic adversaries. The gameplay is complemented by good-looking 3D visuals.

A stand-alone expansion pack for the strategy game Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations - the core game was developed in 2013 by Warfare Sims. In comparison to the base Command, which delivered a global take on modern military conflicts, Northern Inferno reduces both the time frame and the size of the warfare theater present. The plot revolves around fictional events of the year 1975 - the world witnesses the ongoing Cold War and the tensions between world's two superpowers (US and USSR) escalate. The player's goal is to stop the forces of the Warsaw Pact before a nuclear cataclysm happens. Both the visuals and mechanics have not changed since the base game and the creators have focused mainly on preparing a new, extensive story campaign. In order to ensure high level of realism, the creators invited Paul A. Bridge to work on this title - he is both an active officer of the British Navy and a veteran of the Falklands War.

Strategy, RPG Elements, Indie Games, Pirates, Singleplayer, Turn-based.
The third installment in a series of popular turn-based strategies enriched with RPG elements. The franchise has been developed by Tortuga Team - an independent Russian studio. This time, the player takes on the role of Captain Jim, whose goal is to find an ancient treasure. Making this happen often gets interrupted by other pirates the protagonist has to deal with, as well as sea monsters and hordes of undead. A story campaign is at the core of the game and the player is required to explore the game world, complete various story-based missions and side quests, recruit crew-members and fight the enemies encountered. In comparison to the previous installments, Braveland Pirate introduces an important change in the mechanics - the protagonist now takes part in fights directly, joining his team of companions having different weapons and abilities. Significantly, the range of combat abilities available gets wider alongside player progression; as for the battles as such, those take place both in at sea and on land. Changing the setting did not influence the art style of the visuals however - these are still both cartoonish and eye-pleasing.

An old school RPG by 68K Studios, created for mobile devices. The action of Mazes of Karradash takes place in the eponymous city, located in a typical fantasy world which is targeted by dark forces. After a long and uneven fight, the inhabitants of this world learned that the waves of opponents come from the extensive dungeon system under the city. The player’s objective is to lead a group of adventurers to the underground to find and destroy the source of the invasion. Mechanically, this is a typical dungeon crawler production which combines classic elements of the genre with modern ideas. The title features a first-person perspective and focuses on exploration and turn-based combat. There are, however, roguelike elements (permadeath and procedurally-generated levels) and strategy aspects. Between the raids, you also have to regain the city’s previous glamour.

The gameplay itself does not deviate significantly from what we have seen in the original. The developers introduced two new mechanics, though. The first one is Sectors, a system that somewhat changes the game in the initial phases of exploration. It involves traversing subsequent sectors and performing a number of short-term objectives at the same time. An adventure horror game from Darkling Room studios, creators of the Last Crown series and the Dark Fall trilogy. Once again, we assume the role of Nigel Danvers, a researcher who devoted himself to supernatural cases. This time, he planned to spend Halloween investigating a haunted hotel in small port town. The story of The Last Crown: Midnight Horror draws inspiration from old tales and beliefs related to Celtic festival of Samhain. Even though we will meet old faces, the game has been polished as a standalone production, meaning that knowledge of events from previous titles of the series isn’t necessary. As far as game mechanics go, The Last Crown: Midnight Horrors is a classic adventure game, so we mainly explore locations, collect items and solve puzzles. Some of the latter require usage of authentic gadgets used by modern ghost hunters, while others come down to recreating old pagan rituals. The Last Crown: Midnight Horror stands out with its monochromatic style – for most of the time we are presented with black and white visuals.

A narrative puzzle-adventure game referred to as „interactive fiction”, developed by the team of The Coding Monkeys, known so far mostly for the logic game Rules! and the mobile adaptations of popular board games Carcassonne and Lost Cities. Plot of One Button Travel revolves around mysterious scientific discovery, that may, in the near future, revolutionize the lives of all human beings. However, in order for this breakthrough theory to become reality, it is necessary to travel a quite long, difficult road and unravel tons of mysteries and puzzles. The gameplay itself is rather difficult to classify, and reaching the finale of the story requires players to hold a number of interactive conversations and overcome numerous obstacles in form of fairly abstract logical challenges. The game is presented in a heavily experimental form and features minimalist artwork, accompanied by atmospheric soundtrack.

The gameplay is similar to classic, tactical RTS games, such as Company of Heroes, which means that players don't have to gather resources and develop their bases. We immediately start on a battlefield and control a squad that is created before the battle. The squads can consist of vehicles and units that belong to various classes. During the fights players can also access about 150 means of support. New units and useful bonuses are unlocked by making progress in the game. Warfare Online is released in a friendly free-to-play system where you won't find any time limits or intrusive microtransactions.

A strategy shooter game that supports virtual reality sets. The game was developed by RocketWerkz, a studio founded by Dean “Rocket” Hall – the creator of the famous survival game DayZ. Out of Ammo takes place during an undefined modern conflict. The player assumes the role of a commander who must defend a base from the incoming enemy. The game combines the mechanics of a first-person shooter with a tower defense game. The player can shoot the incoming enemies directly, summon artillery support, select targets for snipers and call in an air strike. He can also give simple commands to other soldiers on the battlefield and create buildings such as guard towers. The action takes place on several maps, including a city, desert or a mountain area. The graphics of Out of Ammo are similar to Minecraft. The voxel-based, three-dimensional graphics lack any visual bells and whistles, but provide the title a unique atmosphere.

The sequel of Always Sometimes Monsters that lets us learn the further adventures of the original’s protagonist (allowing us to import save games). This time around, we start out as a young, married author of a bestselling novel. Looking for inspiration for another book, the protagonist embarks on a bus tour through the country, making new acquaintances with his fans and fellow writers. Similarly to the first installment in the series, Sometimes Always Monsters puts emphasis on interaction with non-player characters. In the game, there is no combat system whatsoever; instead, we have to constantly make difficult decisions. Player’s choices shape the story and the protagonist’s relationships with other people and influence the number of available options—the decision to take his wife with him alone can open or close some story possibilities. Sometimes Always Monsters features two-dimensional pixel-art graphics which are, however, more detailed than those of its predecessor.
