Hybris puts us in the role of a small boy who ends up lost in a dark and dangerous forest after he wandered off away from his parents, and his objective is to get out. The game combines classic adventure game elements with modern arcade approach, with the gameplay focusing on exploring the world, avoiding obstacles, solving puzzles and occasionally fighting with enemies. All of this is presented in full 3D (although the players – like in a traditional platformer – can move only in two dimensions) and accompanied by a soundtrack composed by Grammy laureate Austin Wintory.

The gameplay is built from three basic components – exploration of randomly generated locations in search of supplies, building a safe haven from the materials found through disassembly of scavenged objects, and combat with hordes of diversified zombies – the main aim of the developers was to create a cooperation mode for up to four players, but solo play is also possible.
