The classic adventure game scored a successful comeback, although the remake of Benoit Sokal's first game failed to fight its way onto the best-seller lists.

The remake of the late Benoit Sokal's adventure game didn't become a bestseller, but Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy gained recognition from players, and the creators of the refreshed title thanked everyone for the positive feedback with a new trailer.
The adventure game from 1999 is definitely not the most famous and best-rated work of the Belgian cartoonist, but it also did not bring shame to Sokal. Even then, almost 3 years before the release of the first Syberia, his first game captivated players with the atmosphere of a semi-fantastic world of Latin America. The title also achieved considerable commercial success (by the standards of the genre).
So it's easy to understand why the Microids team decided to remind the world of this somewhat forgotten game. This has received quite a reception from industry media, as evidenced by the new trailer for Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy with reviewers' ratings, published 2 months after the launch of the remake on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S (via GameStar).
Let's be real, no one is really going to consider the refreshed Amerzone as a game of the year contender, even if they don't mind remakes in general. The title has 92% positive reviews on Steam, but since April there have been just over 200 of them. In turn, many media reviews are full of praise, but it's also hard to find perfect scores. This is a really well-done remake, clearly adapted to modern standards (although there were initially some performance issues on PlayStation 5), but at the same time, it's still a classic "on-rails" adventure with many solutions that modern players might find outdated. Not everyone may like the specific style of narration.
Nonetheless, it would be unrealistic to expect that the devs of the original would completely redesign the gameplay, which could only harm the game and hurt the fans of the original. In this context, the reception of Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy should be considered very positive (following the trail of ratings on Steam). If only the remake managed to beat the "peak" of the original players on Steam, and the release was not accompanied by rumors (still unconfirmed) about the closure of Microids, which developed the refreshed Amerzone...
