A Plague Tale Requiem: Can You Save the Herbalist?
In the 3rd chapter of A Plague Tale Requiem, you must reach the herbalist's hut to get the medicine for Hugo. The herbalist dies - but can he be saved?
During the adventures in A Plague Tale Requiem, you will repeatedly witness unpleasant and violent scenes, including death. One such moment takes place in Chapter 3 of the game, "A Burden of Blood", in which Amicia and Hugo witness the murder of a herbalist.
In Chapter 3 of A Plague Tale Requiem, we arrive at the forest where the herbalist lives in a hut. Our task is to find him and get a flower that will help heal Hugo. Upon reaching the herbalist's hut, however, it turns out that we are too late.
Can you save the herbalist in Plague Tale Requiem?
Upon reaching the herbalist's hut, we see that he is being escorted out by soldiers. The herbalist's conversation with the soldiers quickly escalates into an argument which ends in the former being killed. The players wonder, however, can the herbalist be saved?
The answer is no – the herbalist cannot be saved. At least, not in the way you think it means. No matter what you try, the plot demands the herbalist to die. You can try, for example, to kill the soldiers who are escorting him, but then the herbalist will be eaten by rats. Distracting the soldiers, attacking them or extinguishing the torch leads to the same result: the herbalist dies either being eaten by the rats or killed by the soldiers.
There is, however, a way that will 'trick' the game into keeping the herbalist alive but it’s a bug so we will not get any achievement or trophy for this. The downside is, you cannot interact with the character in any way, even if he lives. In A Plague Tale Requiem, there are no moral choices and no different outcomes of tasks. The game is linear and leads to a single outcome predicted by the developers. This also applies to this character as well. Unfortunately, the herbalist cannot be saved.
