Baldur's Gate 3 will enable you to gain powers beyond the basic character skill tree. But could the price for Illithid power be too high?

Premiere of Baldur's Gate III is just around the corner, and yet the developers haven't stopped sharing new information about the game after the last Panel from Hell. Heck, today they revealed a big (though hardly surprising) secret - the hidden skill tree of the Mind Flayers.
About the fact that tentacled creatures (also known as Illithids) will play an important role in the third Baldur's Gate, was known from the very beginning. Already the first trailer left no doubt about it, as did the trailer-intro published in 2020. The developers also placed clues not only in the description of the game on its card on Steam, but even in the game's logo.

Thus, confirmation that mind flayers will be among the lead actors in BG 3 comes as no surprise. Things look different in the case of information on the impact of Illithids on gameplay, which is briefly discussed in a new, final episode of the developer's diary before the game's release (via Steam).
The developers did not want to reveal much more - after all, the players will soon go on a new journey through the Forgotten Realms. Nonetheless, the post mentions a few other issues, from the cast of actors and so-called Twitch Drops, to options for resetting player character skills and companions (so-called respec).
Baldur's Gate III on PC will be released on Thursday, August 3, at 5 p.m. CET. We won't play it on PlayStation 5 until September 6 (unless we pay extra for access three days earlier).
