Bannerlord - Players Want Co-op, Devs Reply

Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord from TaleWorlds is only recently available in early access, and players are already considering what features could be included in the final product. Many fans would love to see the possibility of cooperation. A studio representative commented on these requests and his forecast does not sound very optimistic.

IN A NUTSHELL

  • The players want a co-op mode in Mount & Blade 2.
  • The representative of TaleWorlds referred to these requests, informing that the studio currently has no plans to introduce such a mode.
  • Looking at the history of the Mount & Blade series, full implementation of the co-op may not be possible.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord has won the hearts of players with a bang. The title has only recently launched in early access, but that doesn't prevent fans from sharing their insights into what could appear in the final game. A co-op mode appears in their proposals quite often. However, the developers do not plan to introduce this feature in the near future.

A post on Reddit presenting a dream of user whitedeathk has gained quite a lot of popularity in recent days. And what is this dream? The storyline in Bannerland starts with the fact that part of our family is kidnapped and the player and his brother depart to search for the rest of their relatives. Of course, we split up quickly and then the sandbox opens before us. The user would like to live to the point where instead of playing with their brother controlled by AI we could play with another human in cooperation mode.

Family photo, I'm obviously the handsome one.

However, the creators already responded to this dream on TaleWorlds forum almost a month ago. The forum user dosbrostacos asked directly if he would have a chance to play together with his younger brother in cooperation mode. The company representative answered:

MArdA TaleWorlds:

Coop is something that we have investigated and decided to put to one side. We don't currently have any plans to add it to the game now or in the future.

This clearly means that it may never be possible to play the campaign with a friend. Of course, as one of the users noted, there is still hope in mods.

Spartanfox01:

I'm sure it'll be modded in. If they got coop working for Skyrim they can figure it out for this game.

But looking at the history of the previous installments - it may not be that simple. Mount & Blade: Warband celebrated its 10th birthday equally a month ago, and still hasn't got a full-fledged co-op from either TaleWorlds or the modding community. An attempt was made to create an online version of the campaign in a mod called Global Campaign. It had many limitations and simplifications, but it was the experience closest to what the fans expect. However, the mod's servers are no longer operational.

At the moment, for everyone who wants to play with another living person in Warband's campaign, the only (or at least the best implemented) option seems to be Battle Time. According to my observations, it's the most recommended modification for people looking for cooperation experience, and it's part of many other fan projects. However, this is not exactly the experience that players expect - Battle Time gives the opportunity to invite friends to play together only during battles.

The Mount & Blade series, as you can see, is quite resistant to any attempts at implementation of co-op in campaign mode. Maybe it's due to the complexity of the gameplay, or maybe the technological limitations - probably both of these factors play an important role. If you know of any mod that introduces the possibility of having fun with another player in this series, I invite you to leave a comment.
