Battlefield 2042 Rapidly Losing Players; Update #3 Now Available

The new update for Battlefield 2042 is now available. Perhaps thanks to it Steam users will return to the title - most of them have abandoned DICE's work due to bugs and various shortcomings.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Battlefield 2042 has clearly lost its popularity on Steam, and on consoles it's doing worse than you might expect;
  2. In the last 24 hours on Steam there were no more than a little over 30 thousand players in the game at the same time;
  3. The title received a huge update today, introducing many fixes.

Battlefield 2042 is doing worse on Steam than you might expect from a new installment of such a well-known game series. In the last 24 hours, no more than about 30,000 users of Valve's platform were in the game at the same time, which, compared to more than 100,000 people at launch, is a significant drop. Currently BF2042 occupies 29th position on the list of Steam's most popular titles, and there are less than 20 thousand players in the game.

A few thousand people playing at the same time is still a good or at worst decent result for an online game, especially one that is available on several platforms. Nevertheless, we are dealing with a huge drop in popularity, and yet BF2042 has only been on the market for less than two weeks. It's hardly something to be proud of for the creators of a series that has been competing with the highly popular Call of Duty for years.

It should be added that BF2042 is lagging behind not only the giants of Steam like CS:GO, DOTA 2 or even Team Fortress 2. The new Battlefield has already been overtaken by Farming Simulator 22, Hearts of Iron IV, Stardew Valley and Destiny 2, among others.

What's worse, apparently the situation looks equally bad on other platforms. According to TrueAchievements, only 43% of Xbox players unlocked the achievement for reaching level 15, even though it should not take more than a week. On the other hand, 22% of purchasers on Microsoft's consoles and 38% on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 advanced to level 25 (via TrueTrophies).

It doesn't take long to figure out the reason for this player flight. What good BF2042 offers comes mainly from the Battlefield Portal mode. However, the list of new features, or even advantages, is short compared to the long list of problems that have plagued the game since its release. Suffice it to glance at the opinions of Steam users, because although in recent days there have been more positive reviews, they still account for only 35% of the 62 thousand reviews.

Perhaps the situation will improve after next big updatewhich hit the game today. Update #3 is - according to the developers - the biggest one so far, but not in terms of new content. The official list of changes comprasises mainly numerous bugs and fixes in virtually every aspect of the game. Whether this will encourage players to return, we will find out soon.
