Bayonetta 3 in First Reviews: One of Best Games of the Year
The first reviews of Bayonetta 3 are appearing online, with the game receiving high praise from critics.
Bayonetta 3 will have its official launch on Switch in just a few days. Fans of this hack'n'slash series from PlatinumGames had to wait as long as eight years for the sequel; for that's how long it's been since the debut of the second game on the Nintendo Wii U. Was it worth it? Critics agree on the ratings.

Pre-release reviews praise the game primarily for good development of the mechanics from the previous parts, which did not left too much to be desired anyway. In Bayonetta 3 both the combat system and level designs have been improved. Reviewers say that the game can positively surprise until the very end. It was also not without comparisons to another popular hack'n'slash series, which is Devil May Cry.
Bayonetta 3 currently boasts an average rating at 89% on Metacritic. Here are excerpts from selected reviews.
"Do you want more of Bayonetta 1 and 2? That's Bayonetta 3! It keeps the heart and soul of the first two games in every sense, but adds even more fun ways to pound your enemies into the dirt with style," wrote Checkpoint Gaming, 8.5/10.
"When playing Bayonetta 3, much to my delight, I had no clue what was going to happen next at all times," praises Destructoid, 10/10.
"If all you care about is button-ramming combat that’s similar to Devil May Cry, you’ll have a ball. But if you ever wanted to believe that there was something deeper to Bayonetta’s story (...) you’ll find the truth to be quite a disappointment," writes Polygon.
