New Ghost-Type Greavard Revealed for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Just in time for Halloween, the Official Pokemon Company has revealed a brand new Ghost-type Pokemon for Scarlet & Violet, the Ghost Dog Pokemon, Greavard.

In the spirit of the upcoming Halloween holiday, the Official Pokemon Company has revealed a brand new Ghost-type Pokemon that will appear in Pokemon Scarlet & Pokemon Violet. The reveal trailer has a similar style to the Hisuian Zorua & Zoroark trailer for Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The narration comes from the person behind the camera who is very nervous but trying to find a mysterious ghost Pokemon for the Paldean school she attends.

The new Pokemon is a dog-like creature called Greavard. The Pokemon has jagged jaws, but otherwise the look of an adorable dog. The trailer first finds a mysterious candle sticking out of the ground, which is then revealed to be a candle on the head of Greavard. As the narrator approaches, the Pokemon bursts out of the ground. This could be a fun mechanic for the Scarlet & Violet games if it’s not just for the trailers. Hopefully Scarlet & Violet is full of mechanics like this.

As the trailer continues, the narrator plays fetch with the Greavard, and begins to feel more and more tired, eventually collapsing entirely. The official Scarlet & Violet website elaborates on Greavard by explaining that spending time around this Pokemon allows it to slowly drain your life force. This can easily become a problem because Greavard is easy to befriend. It doesn’t seem like this game will have the mechanic that Pokemon Legends: Arceus had, where Pokemon can actually knock out the trainer, but if it does, this would be an important Pokemon to look out for.

There’s no telling if Greavard will evolve or not, though since this dog enjoys hanging out underground, it could eventually pick up a secondary Ground typing. With its massive jaws said to be able to “shatter bones” the ability Strong Jaw would also make sense. There likely won’t be a full answer until Pokemon Scarlet & Violet releases on November 18th.

Will you be adding Greavard to your team? What do you think of the reveal trailer? Leave a comment below letting us know your thoughts!
