Biomutant Leads on Steam Despite Good Deals on Other Games

Mixed player reviews, technical issues and competition from discounted hits didn't stop Biomutant from dominating Steam's bestseller list last week.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Excellent debut pf Biomutant;
  2. Good sales of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and Days Gone;
  3. Attractive deals ensure spots in the top 10 for Sea of Thieves, ARK: Survival Evolved, The Witcher 3 and Rust.

As every Monday, Valve released a weekly list of the biggest (by revenue) Steam bestsellers. The leader turned out to be Biomutant. It did so well that its pre-orders took the first place in the list, and sales after the release were so high that the game itself also took the second position.

Biomutant is selling great, but its debut wasn't a full success. The game's reception is mixed - at the time of writing this message only 65% of user reviews on Steam are positive. It is worth adding, however, that the average score steadily rises. A day after launch only 55% of players spoke well of this title, and on Saturday this percentage increased to 64%.

More worrying is the drop in player activity. The activity record on launch day was 55,048 users. On Friday it was 20,676, and on the weekend 18,315, which should give the developers food for thought, as games often achieve their best results on the first Saturday or Sunday after the debut.

The first patch for the game, which the devs are currently working on, may remedy the situation. They informed on Twitter that it will probably first arrive on PC and only then on consoles. The update is supposed to fix technical bugs and make many improvements based on community suggestions. Changes are planned to affect the difficulty level, narrator, inventory system and the behavior of enemies. Depth of field and motion blur effects will also be modified.

As for the rest of the games on the list, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and Days Gone continue to sell very well. Thanks to attractive discounts, Sea of Thieves also resurfaced in the top ten bestseller list, as did ARK: Survival Evolved, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Rust.
