Bloober Team Could Make Silent Hill Their Own Way, CEO Hints

The head of Bloober Team addressed the rumors suggesting that the studio is working on a remake of Silent Hill 2. He did not confirm the reports, but suggested that each of the company's games will have its own style.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • The head of Bloober Team referred to the rumours circulating in the web;
  • Piotr Babieno has not confirmed that the studio is working on a remake of Silent Hill 2 but the tone of his statement may suggest it;
  • He also confessed that the company's next games will no longer be simple walking simulators.

Rumors, according to which Bloober Team is to be responsible for a remake of the iconic Silent Hill 2 have long since circulated on the web.

These reports are gaining credibility, so questions on this subject are regularly addressed directly to the company. Now Piotr Babieno, the head of the Polish studio, has addressed them.

We do not confirm, we do not deny

CEO of Bloober Team was asked about possible work on Silent Hill 2 by IGN during the Digital Dragons conference. Babieno didn't answer the question directly, but the tone of his statement suggests that something is indeed up.

“We can’t comment on anything we are doing because we appreciate our relationship with our partners, of course. So we can’t [say - ed. note] anything. We will make an announcement about our future projects as soon as we can. So then you will know much more... officially."

The statement, in which Babieno said that we will find out about new projects "officially" in the future, may suggest that we actually already know about them, but it is just a kind of an open secret.

However, it might as well be just unfortunate phrasing. At this point, it's hard to say which of the options is correct.

Apart from that, Babieno said that no matter if we're talking about an original title or one that uses an established brand, it will always follow the spirit of Bloober Team.

  1. The studio does not intend to imitate the style of other developers.
  2. Even using foreign brands, it intends to go its own way.
  3. Possible remake of Silent Hill 2 may turn out to be a game which will largely differ from the iconic original.

Not only Silent Hill

Babieno also referred to other Bloober Team projects. The studio is working not only on the game in cooperation with Konami.

The developers are also creating a completely new IP, the release of which will be handled by Private Division. In addition, another title is in pre-production, about which, however, we know absolutely nothing.

We can expect that these games will be very different from the studio's previous works. Babieno confessed that the company intends to enter uncharted waters.

“There are a lot of people in our team who would like to do bigger games, with more gameplay, with some game mechanics [we haven’t used before] because mostly our past titles were experience-like, right? It was more about the mood, about the story, not necessarily about gameplay. [...] We would like to do games which will tell our stories based on the game mechanics. So you could expect that each of our future titles will have a lot of gameplay mechanics. Those titles will be bigger.”

Bloober Team intends to gradually move away from walking simulators, which it has been known for so far. Babieno gave an example of games, which could be a model for the studio. The title of this kind is to be for example Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.

We'll have to be satisfied with those words for now, because we've yet to see any more games from the studio. However, this may change soon.
