Pathology of Arma Reforger - Barely Running Early Access for $30

Arma Reforger is now available in Early Access on Steam. Unfortunately, according to some players the number of bugs in it is striking.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Arma Reforger collects mixed reviews on Steam;
  • Many players point out the ubiquitous bugs and shortcomings;
  • Some fans were not even able to start the game.

Arma Reforger was announced yesterday and immediately made available in early access on Steam.

Promptly, fans of the series could start testing the new installment, which takes the players to the Cold War period. Unfortunately, many of them claim that the number of bugs in it is unacceptable.

Problematic Early Access

Of course, the new Army should be approached with a dose of understanding. After all, we're talking about a game in early access. The creators themselves admit that the title still requires many improvements.

Unfortunately, according to many players, the game's condition is not befitting even a title in Early Access. This also raises concerns among some fans, because Arma Reforger was supposed to be a kind of a testbed of a new engine called Enfusion, which will also be used in Arma 4.

Currently the game is collecting mixed reviews (59% positive user reviews) on Steam .

"I love Arma and I wish this title was playable, but unfortunately it isn't and pricing a technical demo at $30 is not ok," wrote Spicy

"Arma Reforger is meant to be a testing ground for Army 4 and player expectations. There is nothing wrong with that. As long as you don't sell it for $30. For now, the game feels like a beta version of Squad," wrote King Hattimus

"I was literally unable to join any online lobbies. I kept encountering a black screen and an error informing me that I was disconnected. I've tried everything: reinstalling, verifying files, using WiFi instead of Ethernet, rebooting both Steam and my computer, but none of that has helped me," wrote Gray Bush Goon

"I spent more time trying to play than actually playing. What about the content? There is practically nothing in the game. And this is supposed to be the stepping stone to Army 4? I hope it won't be as empty as this title," wrote Hereditary Sedentary

Not so unpopular after all

Negative reviews didn't change the fact that Arma Reforged enjoys considerable interest. According to SteamDB right after the premiere the game was launched by more than 12 thousand people. However, this number began to drop quickly and it is difficult to say whether there will be a return to previous results in the near future.

Interestingly, even users who gave the title a positive rating, do not hide that it has a lot of flaws. Among the comments we can find voices that Reforger is a title that is not worth buying unless you are a most ardent fan of the series.

However, some seem to fully understand the developers' decision to make the game available so early. Many players have stated that they know how challenging it is to switch to a completely new engine.

Buying a game that is a kind of technical testbed of new solutions is not a problem for them, as long as they help the game's development in the process.

Ultimately, before buying Army Reforger you have to think about what you actually expect from it. If you need a relatively polished title that provides a lot of entertainment, you're probably better off avoiding Bohemia Interactive's new creation.

However, if you are a long-time fan of the series and want to be up to date with the development of its subsequent installments, the new title can be an interesting purchase.
