New Helldivers 2 Warband is here and it brought back many players (via SteamDB). It seems that one of the most anticipated novelties is the possibility to buy a Combat Hatchet. It is a new secondary weapon. However, players are worried that this “axe” will be ineffective in combat, is it true?

Combat Hatchet in Helldivers 2 explained

There are many Shovel enthusiasts out there. It is also a new addition to the game and you can find it on maps. You can fight and even dig into the ground with it (yes, I know it is its primary function, but we are talking about a video game, so such features are not so straightforward). However, because of the potential difficulties in finding it, a new Combat Hatchet is a great alternative, if you want to give a melee build a go.

While “axe” can’t stun, it deals a lot of damage compared to other melee weapons. Thanks to that, it is not only decoration. Especially if you wear armor which buffs your hand-to-hand combat abilities like PH-56 Jaguar. A good choice is to equip a shield to complement it. You can become a knight thanks to that.

While a Hatchet is not a primary choice during fights against heavily armored opponents, it can deal quite quickly with those smaller ones with light or no protection, even if they are in big numbers. It will not be a meta anytime soon, but players are quite surprised with its damage output and combat animations, as they look quite nice (you can check them out in the YouTube video by Cornzzz Games).

Should you buy it? If you want to cut off some bugs’ limbs, you probably will not be disappointed. Will it become your new main weapon? Rather not due to the nature of the game.
