The Sports Interactive team and SEGA decided to cancel Football Manager 25. The developers will instead focus on the next installment of the series.
Sports Interactive studio has just stunned all of its fans. The team announced that Football Manager 25 has been canceled. This decision was made after extensive discussions within the team and careful consideration of the matter with the SEGA company.
Football Manager is a series that traditionally receives a new installment every year. As a result, it's not the case that the developers will start working on Football Manager 26 from scratch. Instead, they will simply take what they have completed for the 25th version and build a new installment on those foundations. It makes sense because even if they managed to release the game in March, they would need to delay the next installment in the series - it's hard to imagine it coming out just eight months later.
The decision to cancel Football Manager 25, although undoubtedly difficult, will allow Sports Interactive studio to get back on track and, hopefully, avoid delays in the next games in the series. Unfortunately, the fact that the creators are currently fully focused on the next game means that there is no chance for an update to the FM24 squads, which would cover the 2024/2025 season.
It's worth noting, in the end, how unusual this decision is for Sports Interactive. Since the launch of the Football Manager series in 2005, subsequent installments were released every year. However, 2024 became the first year without any new game from this brand.
