Have you been surprised by not working crossplay in Dead by Daylight on Xbox? It's a common issue. Here you can learn more about this problem, as well as developer's stance on it.
After nearly 10 years, Dead by Daylight is going stronger than ever. Fans are often receiving fresh content in the form of new killers like Ken Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul and long awaited collaboration with Five Nights at Freddy’s. What is more, it appears that DBD was never better, especially when we look at the peak of concurrent players on Steam, that hit its all-time high in June 2025 (via SteamDB). Obviously, that data shows only fans who enjoy the title on PC, while we cannot be certain about consoles. What we know for sure, though, is that the production has some issues with crossplay on Xbox. What is going on and what the developers have to say about it? Let’s try to find answers for those questions.
Without a doubt, many huge publishers like Sony would love to have DBD in their portfolio, especially in the light of flops like Concord or games which haven’t even come out but still sparked an outrage in gaming community as we saw with Bungie’s Marathon. That, of course, doesn’t mean that Dead by Daylight doesn’t have its fair share of problems. Most recent one is related to crossplay feature on Xbox consoles. What happened?
According to reports of many players, crossplay was suddenly disabled in DBD on Xbox consoles without an option to turn it back on. Obviously, simple operations like checking internet connection, restarting the game or even reinstalling it do not work. It all started happening on July 8th and, so far, there is no solution or workaround to this issue. However, the good thing is that the developers saw the problem, recognized it, and they are already working on a fix on their end.
We can expect that this matter will be resolved in a matter of hours or days, at worst. It is hard to tell exactly when that will happen, though, so the best way to stay informed is to follow DBD’s official X account or Facebook profile.
While network functionality is of a vital importance in this production, crossplay is only a part of it. With how popular Dead by Daylight is, it shouldn’t be hard to find companions to play with. The problem begins, however, if you would like to play with a friend who uses a different device than Xbox. If that’s the case, unfortunately the only option left is to wait.
