Daniel Vávra criticized low scores of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. „Be proud of your excellent journalistic standards!”

The developers of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are confident in their project, but Daniel Vávra from Warhorse Studios points out lower scores that have been given to the RPG.

The creator of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 isn't thrilled with the more critical reviews of his new game.

The official release of KCD 2 is happening today, but reviewers have had the game for a while, and most couldn't stop praising the second installment of the Czech saga. Of course, not all industry media representatives were equally enthusiastic about Kingdom Come 2, but it speaks volumes that the game had a "metascore" of 90/100 for a while. Warhorse studio received congratulations for high ratings from none other than Chris Avellone himself.

Low scores irritated Warhorse Studio' head

As is often the case, not every reviewer gave the game top score. Kingdom Come: Deliverance also received several lower scores from journalists who had bigger reservations about the Czech RPG.

What is unusual, however, is that one of the game's developers, and not just anyone, responded to these lower ratings. Daniel Vavra pointed out Eurogamer's review with a score of 3/5, sarcastically calling the portal a " trusted news source." As Vavra noticed, the previous game didn't even get a rating (although it should be added that this is rather the effect of a change in this editorial office, which at that time didn't give ratings to games).

In any case, players eagerly joined in criticizing this review, whether by quoting parts of it (such as the author's issues with equipping the character with a torch or Vavra's personal views) or by comparing the 3/5 rating for KCD 2 with the 5/5 rating given by Eurogamer to Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Only a few users on the X platform deemed the post by the head of Warhorse Studios as "petty."

However, Vavra didn't stop there, as he later similarly "highlighted" the 2.5/5 rating from GameHub, "congratulating" the reviewer on high journalistic standards. In this case, Czech apparently had a complaint against the author because due to this "metascore" note, KCD 2 fell below 90/100. Another point is that there might be uncertainty about whether this one review is to "blame," given the game's current score of 87/100 on PC and 88/100 on both consoles.

Brutal month for game release

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is not the only big launch in February. In the first half of the month, a new Civilization will reach the players, and later on, Avowed and Monster Hunter: Wilds will appear on the market. Daniel Vavra, CEO of Warhorse studio, stated that such strong competition would have "crushed" the developer's morale... with the first KCD.

For a debut and essentially independent studio, facing off against one of the most renowned game series, a new RPG from Obsidian, and the latest entry in the popular aRPG series is quite a daunting prospect (and that's only part of the competition). However, the situation of the Warhorse team is different now.

Since 2019, the studio has been overseen by the Plaion company, and furthermore, the first installment - despite its issues - was well-received by players. Therefore, KCD is already a recognized brand, and we might even suggest that Avowed and Monster Hunter: Wilds need to compete with KCD 2, rather than the other way around. Anyway, the developers are now more confident in their game than they were 7 years ago.
