Reviews of the long-awaited Dead Island 2 have hit the web. The bloody combat system is satisfying, but the game is not without flaws.
One would like to say "finally!". Premiere of Dead Island 2 will take place in just three days - the game was announced in 2014, and since then the game has managed to change developers twice. Was it worth waiting almost a decade to face the zombies again? The answer comes from first reviews of Dead Island 2, which have hit the web.
The game is praised by many critics primarily for its enjoyable gameplay. Brutal disposal of the infected from a first-person view is said to be extremely satisfying. The sensation of bloody combat is enhanced primarily by the FLESH system advertised by the developers, thanks to which the infliction of damage is very realistic. In addition, reviewers appreciate the beautiful visuals of Dead Island 2.
However, critics did not fail to mention the game's flaws,of which it has quite a lot. There is no shortage of opinions that in addition to fantastic and "brainless" combat the title does not offer anything innovative. The unengaging storyline and sense of humor are often mentioned by the reviewers as elements that detract from the charm of the game. Some journalists have also pointed out that Dead Island 2 is not free of bugs (e.g., visuas glitches).
"(...) Considering how versatile its setting is and how much potential Dead Island 2 had to do something great with its combat and skills system, it doesn’t fully take advantage of it and gives up on it closer to the end of the game." GamePressure.com, 7/10.
"[...] Dead Island 2 is a refreshing surprise among this year's releases. It's a fun and simple zombie-crushing experience that may be let down by uninspiring RPG elements and a boring loot system, but makes up for it with brutal combat and amazing graphics," Push Square, 7/10.
"If you're simply looking for brainless fun, then Dead Island 2 is the perfect zombie game for that, filled to the brim with violence and environmental narrative of the highest order," Digital Trends, 3/5.
Reviewers are thus quite divided on whether the nine-year wait for the game was worth it. This gives Dead Island 2 an average rating of 75/100 at this point (based on 59 reviews of the PS5 version) on Metacritic.
We cite selected critics' scores below:
Dead Island 2 will debut on April 21, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S and PCs.
