Diablo 4 Expecting Biggest Changes Since June Release; Patch 1.2.0 in Detail

Blizzard has unveiled the changes that await Diablo 4 players in Season of Blood. They concern character classes, the immunity system, unique items and damage math. Especially the latter may not appeal to players.

On October 17, the first season of the online competition in Diablo IV will end, and season 2 will begin. Along with it will debut update 1.2.0. It is meant to be proof that Blizzard is listening to the voice of the community. Therefore when preparing the patch, the developers focused on 4 elements: the resistance system, unique items, character classes and the mathematics of dealing damage.

Patch 1.2.0 for Diablo 4

Changes to the resistance system

  1. For example, when having 20% protection against poison in the Season of Malignant, we increased it by another 20%, the total was 36%.
  2. In the Season of Blood, it will be 40% (this factor can be increased to a maximum of 70% - or to 85% with the appropriate effects).
  3. Armor is now to provide only physical resistance.
  4. Rings and amulets will guarantee all types of immunity.

Unique items

  1. They will gain new statistics and effects.
  2. For example, a reduction in the cooldown of skills in weapons or significantly higher fire damage (up to about double).

Character classes

  1. Improvements specific to each of the six available character classes will be introduced.
  2. The general idea is that the most powerful builds will not dominate too much over the others.
  3. You can check out the changes awaiting your favorite class here.

The math of dealing damage

  1. In Season of Malignant, most players focused on combining critical damage and damage dealt to exposed enemies, as this was the most profitable.
  2. In Season of Blood, these two factors will no longer multiply each other.
  3. Instead, the damage we inflict will be multiplied by 1.5 (like critical) and then by 1.2 (like from exposure)...
  4. ...which will ultimately increase our damage by 80%.
  5. The developers also assure that they have fixed the way overwhelm damage is calculated.

These changes were discussed with specific examples during the Campfire Chat series stream, which took place several hours ago (see video above). Blizzard assures that they are intended to make the game more enjoyable and interesting, and not just to limit the players. Nevertheless, the developers realize that some of the upcoming changes may be perceived in a negative way, so they addressed this at the end of the broadcast.

Patch 1.2.1 for Diablo 4

The developers also revealed that at the end of October, i.e. a few or so days after the release of update 1.2.0, patch 1.2.1 is to be released, which will introduce to Diablo IV among other things:

  1. a button that enables you to reset master points (so-called receipts);
  2. a training dummy, which will appear in the basement in Kyovashad and will be able to take the form of a selected "regular" opponent or boss.

As a reminder, let me add that on October 17 Diablo IV will launch on Steam. The updates in question, meanwhile, will be available on all platforms on which the game was released, i.e. PC, PS4, PS5, XOne and XSX/S.
