The fourth Diablo proved to be quite commercial success for Blizzard - in a matter of days the game generated 666 million dollars in revenue. This translates into at least several million buyers. With such numbers, it's not difficult to encounter scammers or spammers, especially since the game requires a constant Internet connection to play.

Advertisements in the form of mass friend invitations

Recently, one Diablo IV player shared a screenshot on the game's subreddit, showing many unwanted friend invitations advertising the sale of items in Blizzard's game. In the comments under the post, other fans admitted that they also faced a similar problem.

As Diablo IV offers no simple way to sell and buy back items from other players, such as using an auction house (which was present for a while in Diablo III), massive advertising of external websites enabling such a thing is the order of the day. According to players, the reason for this could be:

  1. logging in with a Battle.net account on an unofficial website that trades items for Diablo IV;
  2. joining a Discord dedicated to selling items;
  3. joining some in-game clans.

However, there are some people claiming that they get friend invitations from spam accounts for no reason. If this is the case, it may be related to sending a message in a chat dedicated to in-game sales.

The solution to spam accounts

Many players are frustrated that it is not possible to block suspicious accounts that advertise external websites directly in Diablo IV. Reporting such individuals is done only in Battle.net launcher. Unsurprisingly, fans are calling for Blizzard to get involved.

Some players, however, fear that the flood of spam messages or invitations will soon affect more people playing with Diablo IV (a comparison to spamming bots in Diablo II is most valid), and the developers will not react to it in any way. Blizzard's action would be advisable, especially since the upcoming first season of online gameplay is likely to attract a lot of people to the game.
