It can’t get more free-to-play as it gets.

Splash Damage, the team responsible for creating online FPS called Dirty Bomb, has announced in October last year that with the next update of the game, support for the title will be officially discontinued. After the last patch Dirty Bomb will continue to be playable, but with a lack of further and new content in any form - there will be no new heroes, weapons, skins, or even patches to correct the bugs and balance the game. From the last entry on the developer’s page we can check what to expect next.

Instead, we wanted to turn this update into a celebration of Dirty Bomb, allowing players old and new to experience everything, without a cost. We’ve been working to remove all monetisation from Dirty Bomb, and also have thrown in a few extra treats as a thank you to all of our players for supporting the title over the years..

The release date of the last update is 15 January 2019. On that day, the entire premium currency in Dirty Bomb, known as "RAD", will be converted into free credits (at the exchange rate of 1 RAD = 20.84 credits). The possibility of buying RAD will be permanently disabled and the speed of earning credits during the game will be increased - from 19 to 50 per minute. Dedicated servers will run in active regions at least until the end of 2019. Decisions on 2020 and beyond have not yet been taken.

Splash Damage is a British studio founded in 2001 by former modders (responsible for Quake 3 Fortress modification). The team specializes in multi-person FPP shooters. Their credits include such titles as Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars or Brink.
