Downloading Bug on PS5 Requires Console Data Wipe

Players who already have a copy of their PS5 report a serious mistake that can permanently block the ability to download games and applications in some situations. One solution seems to be to restore the console to its factory settings.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. A bug on PS5 blocks the ability to download games and applications;
  2. The bug is related to games / applications that have special versions dedicated to Sony's new platform;
  3. Currently, the only solution is to restore the console to its factory settings.

PlayStation 5 users have detected a rather serious bug, which in some situations prevents them from downloading games or applications (via Gamerant). The problem occurs with games and applications that have a dedicated PS5 versions (e.g. Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War or Assassin's Creed: Valhalla).

The error appears in two versions. In the first one, the title we want to download remains in queue, but the progress bar does not move at all. In the second, players receive a message informing them that the game cannot be downloaded. In both cases, PS5 users cannot remove the problematic item from the list - after going to the appropriate menu, it turns out that the title is not there at all, although in practice it stays in the queue and blocks it as a result.

PS5 Download Queue Bug - There is a Solution... Sort of

The PlayStation community has already found a solution to the problem, but you probably won't like it. The only solution seems to be to return the console to its factory settings, which involves deleting saved data and profiles. You'll need to download everything again (although you can transfer the games on PlayStation 4 to an external HDD - assuming you have one, of course).

To reset your PS5 to factory settings, go to the system settings menu and select the "System Software" tab. There you will find "Reset Options", where you have to click on "Reset Your Console". Once you have confirmed your choice, the process of deleting data from the device will begin.

It remains to be hoped that Sony will quickly deal with the most serious bugs. It is worth noting that the first update has already been released.
