Dungeons & Dragons Coming to Silvers Screens and More

Hasbro's Executive Director has informed that a live-action series set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe is in an early production phase and arouses interest of many potential distributors.

In 2019, we heard that Hasbro (well-known toy manufacturer, but also Transformers and My Little Pony series) is developing a feature film based on the iconic pen&paper RPG system Dungeons & Dragons. The movie was to be directed by the scriptwriters of Spider-Man: Homecoming, that is Jonathan Goldstein and Jonathan Francis Daley. After a dozen or so months from these reports we don't know much more, but the CEO of the company, Brian Goldner, shared another curiosity. It turns out that Hasbro is also working on a live-action TV series based on the RPG system (via ComicBook).

"[The team is] also working on a couple of different approaches, because there is so much mythology in Canon to - Dungeons & Dragons for live action television. And there's been very strong interest. We've talked about how many global streamers and terrestrial broadcasters have been very interested in Dungeons & Dragons."

Brian Goldner (above) is optimistic about the result of works and interest of distribution companies.

Dungeons & Dragons is such a popular and well-designed RPG that he has already received several adaptations in different media spaces. It's enough to mention the legendary isometric RPGs like the Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale or Neverwinter Nights series - they were all based on this system.

As for television and cinema, it's enough to go back to the golden era in the eighties. That's when three seasons of fantasy animation series titled Dungeons and Dragons were created. The 21st century brought three terrible films, directed by Courtney Solomon and Gerry Lively. It's best to let them be unspoken. Let's hope that Hasbro will do better, because the source material is asking for good use. At this point, however, the air date of the series is unknown. The movie is to be released in 2021.
