Techland's fantastic streak seems to have no end. As befits a leader in the Polish gaming industry, the studio known for Dying Light ended last year with spectacular results.
As reported by Puls Biznesu [in Polish] 2022 will be a memorable year for Techland not only because of the release of Dying Light 2 but also because of the excellent financial results on which this game had a significant impact.
The above results were mainly influenced by the release of Dying Light 2, which took place in February 2022. At the time, the next installment of the post-apocalyptic series was positively received by both gamers and industry experts. As a result, the title sold 5 million copies in just one month after its debut.
What results can Techland expect this year? This is what the company's head, Pawel Marchewka, could not yet reveal to the journalists. Nevertheless, he stressed that the studio is planning "several important and interesting activities that could have a significant impact on the results." You can read the developer's full statement below.
"We are in the middle of the year and have not yet financially closed the second quarter. It is difficult to give accurate estimates for this year's results. We have some important and interesting activities ahead of us that could have a significant impact on results. As for Dying Light 2, we have been working closely with our community since the beginning of the process to ensure that their ideas and wishes are implemented in the game. Our main focus is on this."
Despite these not inconsiderable successes, Techland has seen a slight decline in terms of the company's valuation. Currently, the Wroclaw-based company is valued at PLN 9.96 billion (last year it was PLN 10.6 billion). As a result, the leading position among game companies returned to CD Projekt RED, whose capitalization amounts to PLN 15 billion (10 billion in 2021).
Despite losing the leadership position in this particular list, Techland's owners are optimistic about the future. Pawel Marchewka (who last year hit to the top ten richest Poles according to Forbes) revealed that he believes that the new IP, which is under development, will contribute to the company's continued success. The same opinion is reportedly held by Techland's partners, who have already had a chance to see the mysterious open-world RPG in action.
