Soulslike fans are extremely excited after the recent story trailer for the upcoming Elden Ring expansion. As the marketing campaign for Shadow of the Erdtree kicked off in earnest, the head of FromSoftware studio, Hidetaka Miyazaki, became publicly active. He shared interesting information about one of the key series of his team in an interview.

In an interview with IGN Japan, the Japanese dev and industry visionary noted that he and his people are ready to continue the series created since 1997 Armored Core, especially considering the fact that last year's six installment was a success in their eyes.

The Armored Core series is very important to FromSoftware. We have a strong will to continue it in the future. I believe Armored Core 6 was a success [...].

Although he considers the latest installment of Armored Core a success, Miyazaki also sees elements that should be improved when developing the seventh installment of the series.

[...] not everything was perfect. There is still room for improvement. So I have no intention of stopping there [on AC 6].

Miyazaki has yet to provide a clear stance on the potential sequel (or prequel) to FromSoftware's Elden Ring, which makes his words interesting as the father of soulslikes. Moreover, it's no secret that the Japanese like to develop new brands.

That was the case after the success of Dark Souls, Miyazaki decided to develop Bloodborne for the upcoming PlayStation 4, while also overseeing the development of Dark Souls 2 for PS3 (and Xbox). The situation was similar with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - the Japanese developer opted not to continue the Souls series, aiming instead to chart a new course for the studio. However, it seems that the Armored Core series holds a special place in Miyazaki's heart, which isn't surprising, as the fifth installment was the first game he worked on as a director.

Despite everything, I am convinced that Elden Ring 2 will be made someday - as the vast majority of players probably do. However, Miyazaki's statements suggest that the next Armored Core will be released before the second Elden Ring, which isn't very surprising given the significant difference in the scale of the two games' projects.
