First Reviews: Ghostrunner - The Other Cyberpunk Game is Good

Tomorrow, the cyberpunk game Ghostrunner will launch on the market. The title may not be able to compete with Cyberpunk 2077, but the first reviews show that it is a very good game.

In recent years, when hearing the words "Poland" and "cyberpunk", the players' thoughts have had to wander towards Cyberpunk 2077. However, the work of CD Projekt RED is not the only Polish title set in the gloomy distopic future. The other game is Ghostrunner, which is scheduled to launch tomorrow and has already received its first reviews. This takes into account our text, to which we have provided a link below.

Ghostrunner - selected review scores:

  • Gamepressure.com - 8/10
  • GameBlog.fr - 9/10
  • God is a Geek - 9/10
  • Game Revolution - 4.5/5
  • Shacknews - 9/10
  • Destructoid - 8.5/10
  • IGN - 8/10
  • PCGamesN - 8/10
  • Wccftech - 8/10
  • GameSpot - 7/10

Cracow-based studio One More Level has reasons to be proud. Ghostrunner is an excellent game, not, as some cynics might suspect, an attempt to ride on the hype of the much-anticipated title of CD Projekt RED. However, it's not a game for everyone, because of its high difficulty. This is not surprising in the context of the adopted "one hit-and-it's-over" system, which applies to both enemies and the player character. This somewhat mitigates the generosity of the developers in terms of savepoints, but you can see that some of the reviewers were "slightly" frustrated after completing the game. Not everyone was also delighted with the plot, and here and there were mentions of mistakes and forced resolutions.

Nevertheless, the game makes up for those mistakes and it's hard to find a text whose author wouldn't be delighted with Ghostrunner. Combat is precise and extremely satisfying, as are intensive sequences using parkour. The audio-visuals also add their two cents to the mix Some reviewers describe Ghostrunner as a truly next-gen title, and many of them also mention excellent music and sound effects, perfectly harmonizing with the dynamic action on the screen. Importantly, this did not affect the game's operation. On the contrary, here and there, Cracow-based team collected praise for great optimization, although not all of them specify whether they mean the PC or console version.

To sum up, Ghostrunner is another really good game. Let's hope that by the time Cyberpunk 2077 is released, the title will find many buyers. The game will be released tomorrow on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, and next year also on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
