GeForce RTX 3080 Benchmark; World Responds to the Announcement

Yesterday's announcement of GPUs from the Ampere family met with a very warm reception from Internet users. Thanks to the analysis of Digital Foundry we also have the first information about the performance of the GeForce RTX 3080.

Ampere promises to be great.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. In games tested by Digital Foundry, the GeForce RTX 3080 most often offers 70-80% more performance than its predecessor (RTX 2080);
  2. In the Borderlands 3 benchmark in 4K resolution, the RTX 3080 delivered 62 fps;
  3. The announcement of the Ampere GPU series has received a very warm reception from the gaming community.

The editors at Digital Foundry has had the opportunity to test one of Nvidia's new GPUs - the powerful GeForce RTX 3080 - over the past few days, and they have collected their impressions of this chipset in the video below. Due to the restrictions imposed by the manufacturer, we won't find a full benchmark there, but a percentage comparison with the previous generation GPUs. Based on the available data, it can also be calculated that in Borderlands 3 the GPU reached 62 fps at 4K resolution.

GeForce RTX 3080 versus GeForce RTX 2080

What emerges from the movie is an image of a truly powerful and groundbreaking GPU that offers one of the highest performance leaps from generation to generation in history. In most titles, the new GPU performs 70-80% better than its predecessor, the GeForce RTX 2080.

The performance increase is particularly noticeable when playing games that make extensive use of ray-tracing - the improved architecture and much faster RT cores perform much better. This is best illustrated by the examples of Control and Quake II (of course, the version using path tracing). The performance in Doom Eternal is also impressive, as RTX 3080 is sometimes twice as fast as its predecessor.

Nvidia Ampere GPU - reception on the web

Similarly optimistic are the reactions of other youtubers, such as the creators at the Linus Tech Tips channel, who believe that Ampere can be a real breakthrough - provided, of course, that the promises made yesterday by Nvidia are covered in reality (and first opinions seem to confirm them).

The announcement was very well received by the gaming community. Many users stress that they can't wait to get their hands on the new graphics card.

"So 3080 is around 80% faster than 2080, which means around 40% faster than 2080ti if I am not mistaken that 2080ti is around 30% faster than 2080. I am impressed. I haven't expected this kind of leap. Finally, we are getting an increase we have been waiting for so long," says nick12233.

"Wow. Very impressive price to performance from the 3080. The poor 2080ti just got stomped. The market is about to be flooded with these GPUs but at a huge loss to the owner. For a $1200 card it doesn't make sense to sell it 2nd hand for more than $600," notes Jaz1140.
