Many players are experiencing crashes at the login screen for Grounded 2. Obsidian is aware of the issue, but in the meantime, here are a few things to try.
Today, Obsidian Entertainment has launched Grounded 2 on Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview, though there is some confusion on the Steam side. But, as with most game launches, there are some issues to figure out. Some players have reported that Grounded 2 is consistently crashing at the login screen. Fortunately, if you’re experiencing problems like this, we have some tips that might help resolve the issue.
The sequel to Obsidian’s popular co-op survival crafting game has drawn in a huge player count on launch day, at least on Steam, but that hasn’t stopped some players from experiencing issues that keep them from even playing the game. In a post to the Grounded 2 Steam discussions page, user Jak shared that the game is crashing consistently every time they try to log in, with many other players echoing the same experience.
Thankfully, a few solutions have been found by the users in this discussion, and the developers are aware and working on a fix. If you’re experiencing crashes every time you reach the login screen, the best and easiest thing to do is make sure your game is up to date. Check the Downloads section of Steam, and if you don’t see an update, select the game in your library, right click, and go to “Properties,” then under the “Updates” section, make sure “Immediately download updates” is chosen. That way, when Obsidian releases a patch, it will be the first to download.
But in the meantime, there are a few other things to try as well. Something that has worked for us at Gamepressure is verifying files. This is a good method to try with any Steam game that is having trouble. It essentially verifies that your local files match the files on Steam’s servers. To do this, select the game in your Steam library, right click, go to “Properties,” select the “Installed files” section, and click “Verify integrity of game files.”
From the Steam Discussion thread, many players seem to be experiencing the crash when they try to log in through Windows or Xbox. This is the best practice for accessing crossplay between Steam and Xbox for Grounded 2, but it seems to be the main source of this problem. Some players have been able to uninstall and reinstall, then avoid the Windows login and avoid crashes, but of course, this method does not let you enable crossplay.
A developer has shared a comment in the thread saying that they are “working on a hotfix.” But in the meantime, if none of the above options have worked for you, the developers have shared a page with more basic options to investigate. For now, we’ll have to wait to see if there is an update that eliminates the problem for everyone.
