GTA Online - Player Avatars Lose Fortunes and Hair Due to a Bug

Many GTA Online players complain on Reddit that their characters have lost their property, including apartments, vehicles and weapons, for unexplained reasons. In some cases the bug also affects character's appearance.

You better wait before logging into GTA Online for now.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Many players report that after logging into GTA Online they have lost some of their assets, such as vehicles, apartments or weapons;
  2. Also the appearance of some characters seems to have changed without a reason;
  3. Your account balance and your character's level do not change;
  4. It is not known what is the cause of the problem, and players failed to find any solution.

Numerous users of Reddit report that after logging in to GTA Online they have lost a large part of their accumulated assets. Various, seemingly random, items and goods disappear - it's hard to see any rules. It is also uncertain what is the reason for this situation. The victims are most often PC players, although there are also posts from owners of other platforms in threads devoted to this matter.

"Pc - Steam. Lost everything apart from character level, money (not sure about chips) and my yacht as well as still having a couple of basic weapons," writes sewershagger.

"Same for me: PC - Steam. Lost my appattement, Office, Nightclub, Terrorbyte, 2 Garages, Helicopter and my car. Only left is my money and charackter level," writes DerSenderchef.

Interestingly, some players also report that for unexplained reasons the appearance of their characters or the colors or other features of their items have changed.

"Yacht is wrong colour and country as well. Only for my current character. My character has big red cheeks all of a sudden as well. I closed my game in my Casino Penthouse, and my spawn point is also the Casino, but today I spawned at a random point on the map. Ironically it was in front of Eugenics Inc.," describes splintersailor.

In some cases the appearance of our character also changes.

Some also report that when trying to make a purchase the game displays the following error message: "Transaction failed because inventory or pricedata is invalid".

"PC - Steam, just randomly lost my property and all my vehicles and a bunch of weapons. Tried buying a garage and I get the "Transaction failed because inventory or pricedata is invalid. Also, my character is going bald randomly, not sure if related," writes user SpoopySara.

Others note that the characters affected by the bug cannot acquire new property (they can carry out a transaction but the item is lost after the next login).

"I lost everything too, and maybe I'm starting to understand. Everyone who's been affected has the same make up, and if we can't buy stuff it means our character gets resetted over and over with a "placeholder" version of it. However, on Rockstar's website you can check the guns you own, which means our profiles are still saved in the servers. When logging in a session, we are probably being "blocked" from receiving our specific character's info," notes David432853.

The whole situation resembles a late April Fool's joke, but everything seems to indicate that it is not. Users have tried different methods of solving the problem (including e.g. cleaning the cache), but so far none of them have yielded a result. The only solution seems to be to turn to the Rockstar Games customer support department, describe the situation and lost items, and then expect the developers to react relatively quickly.
