Harry Potter fans have already been able to see what Harry, Hagrid and even Dursleys will look like in the TV series from HBO Max, thanks to official and unofficial photos and footage from the set. However, there are still a number of characters that pique the interest of fans of the series and that they would like to see as soon as possible.

Among these is Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, who will be played by John Lithgow in the Harry Potter TV series. For now, the actor hasn't even stepped onto the set, since, as he confessed, his scenes won't be shot until August 2025. But he's already had his first costume fittings, as he told in Ruthie's Table 4 podcast.

Still, we may not see pictures of him in costume any time soon. HP fans, however, have found a way to help themselves visualize Lithgow as Dumbledore. They are using a scene from the 2017 film Daddy's Home 2, in which Lithgow was shown wearing a long robe and sporting a long white beard. His costume looked cheap and tacky, as it was meant to be amateurish, but it was enough for fans to get some idea of what he might look like as the headmaster of Hogwarts.

You can watch the scene from Daddy's Home 2 with John Lithgow in a long white beard below.

It may not be a perfect portrayal of Albus Dumbledore, but one can see a certain concept of the Hogwarts headmaster that has allowed fans to believe Lithgow can indeed do well in the role, as he has a distinctive twinkle in his eye, and also his role in Dexter further proved that he can also be “a bit menacing.”

That’s funny, he does have that whole “twinkle in his eye” thing going though, and he can also be stern and a bit menacing, seeing him in Dexter. I can definitely see why they wanted him for the role – TheRainyConsole.

Harry Potter TV series will be released on HBO and HBO Max in 2027.
