Hogwarts Legacy Has Tons of Bugs, but They May Disappear on Release

The developers of Hogwarts Legacy will still improve the game before it becomes available to all interested parties. Let's check what bugs the first players experienced.

It looks like Hogwarts Legacy has not disappointed. After many years (and delays), fans of Harry Potter have finally received a very good game set in the magical universe, albeit without the title character.

However, it is difficult to expect such an elaborate production to launch without problems. On the official website of the game one can find a list of bugs that plague Legacy of Hogwarts ahead of its official debut.

Some of them are expected to be patched in the release update. Nonetheless, it's worth mentioning them in advance in case one or two bugs (and let's hope not more) are spared. Besides, some players are having fun in Hogwarts Legacy since Monday and have encountered quite a few interesting "surprises."

Hogwarts Legacy - a list of known problems

Forced closing of the game

Unfortunately, the list of bugs present in Hogwarts Legacy opens with the universallly-hated crashes to desktop. The game happens to forcibly close already at startup, at the stage of accepting the user's license or the screen with the warning against possible epileptic attacks.

The problems by no means end once the game starts. It happens that after the first few hours (or tens of minutes) without any major glitches, the game starts to shut down abruptly. Sometimes it repeats itself when completing tasks or displaying cutscenes. Other times it is difficult to find any connection between individual instances of crashing.

As a result, it is difficult to point to a universal way to solve these problems. In the case of Steam, some players report (via Reddit) that it helped them to verify the game files after restarting the platform's client. Others recommend installing the latest GPU drivers or - as always when all else fails - reinstalling Hogwarts Legacy.

It is possible that one of the reasons could be a memory leak, as happened with the recent Pokémon and Anno 1800. For now, players can only wait for the launch update (see the section "Hogwarts Legacy - changes for the premiere").

Hogwarts Legacy Interactive Maps

Paint my world green and blue

The visual and optimization problems have already been written about before, also in the context of player opinions. However, sudden drops in performance (even on powerful PCs) and ugly character models (and locations lacking detail) do not exhaust the list of all such problems. The latter glitch is said to be fixed by changing the texture settings to ultra, only that it significantly reduces performance.

Some of them turned out to be very easy to solve, for example characters colored blue and green outside cutscenes. Here it was a matter not so much of a bug, but of high contrast mode being turned on. Changing this setting to disabled removes this "bug."

Some of the glitches that are still present are little things like a strange visual glitch in scenes with Professor Eleazar Fig or bushes turning white from a distance (which is resolved by lowering the quality of materials to low). It also happens that throwing a stone into the water has unexpected consequences.

Tasks that can't be completed

One of the popular tips from people already playing Hogwarts Legacy is: save the game before each task. Nowadays, there are times when the game makes it impossible to complete tasks, even those required to advance the main storyline.

One particularly unlucky quest is "Secrets of the Forbidden Books Department" mission. If the protagonist does not have a place in the inventory and opens a chest containing a key, you will not receive the key, but the game will mark the chest as open, preventing further interaction and thus completion of the quest.

It also happens that the player receives the key, but the quest log does not record this, which also blocks further progression. Some Internet users have experienced a similar glitch in other quests, such as "Keys of Daedalus."

Another problem occurs in the task called Jackdaw's Rest. Apparently, the game wants the wizards to rest there a little longer. Or even for eternity, because players can't leave the title location.

Sometimes this is hindered by a barrier in the exit, which should disappear after defeating the guards. Other times a platform does not appear, which the player should be able to call with spells to get out of the cave or island. In both cases, it does not help to start the mission over; it is better to load the save file or restart the game.

Players also report problems with completing the quest "Alohomora".. After aborting the mission, it is impossible to talk to Gladwin Moon afterwards. Here, too, the only solution is to load the save file from before you undertook the quest (to be sure, you can also immediately go to Moon and start the mission with him).

Black magic

Some players also encountered bugs that do not so much suggest, but confirm the existence of black magic. Sometimes, during the exploration of Hogwarts, characters appear out of nowhere. Other times a character is punished for running around the castle walls by falling out of the world and ends their life with a violent fall.

Evil spells may also be the reason why some people playing on Xbox Series X/S (less often: on PC) cannot enter the hero's name. The problem is present even when the keyboard is plugged in, but for some it disappeared after turning off the console and restarting it after a short break.

Hogwarts Legacy - changes for the premiere

It is appropriate to mention that Warner Bros. Interactive has already outlined the content of the premiere update for Hogwarts Legacy (via Update Crazy). No details were given, but it was written that the patch will introduce, among other changes, the following:

  1. fixes for bugs that cause the game to forcibly close;
  2. gameplay fixes for greater stability and smoother performance and elimination of lag;
  3. optimization and gameplay fixes.

The full list of changes should be released with tomorrow's debut of Hogwarts Legacy on PC, PS5 and XSX/S. Recall that the game is also heading to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles (release date: April 23) and Nintendo Switch (July 25).
