Is Peak game crashing after the first campfire? Devs are looking into that, but you can try something
Getting to the peak is challenging on its own, but some fans have it extra difficult due to crash in Peak. It often happens right after the first campfire, while venturing into the tropics. Here you will find a workaround that will allow you to push forward.

Hello, mountain climbers! Great work getting that far, take a rest near the campfire. Take a bite of this tasty marshmallow, get a sip of water and relax for a bit. Ready to go on? Perfect! Then let’s get go… *Faulting application name: PEAK.exe*
Is this how your experience with Peak looks like? You’re not the only one. A lot of fans who get to past the first campfire entering tropics are victims to such scenario. However, that doesn’t have to be the end of your way to the peak. Here you will find a temporary workaround, as well as an update from the devs on this matter.
Workaround for first camp crash in Peak
It’s not a surprise that Peak is gaining traction. We all know that Jusant has it’s faithful fanbase, but also Cairn is just around the ridge with similar idea of climbing as the center point of gameplay. Peak, however, focuses on co-op experience that many players adore. Sadly, for some people it crashes consistently after reaching the first camp and venturing out into the tropics. There’s no need to despair, as the workaround is easy and simple.

It appears that for whatever reason, the production does not bode well with Vulkan API. Usually, switching an option to DirectX12, while launching the title, would suffice, yet it seems that it doesn’t work this time, and despite such selection, Peak sometimes still insists on using Vulkan. To get around that, in game’s properties (available after right-clicking it in your Steam’s Library) you should add a simple command line that will force the use of DX12:
-force-d3d12
It has also been observed that Peak tends to crash with very high, uncapped framerates. Due to that, it is a good idea to turn on vsync, which purpose is to match the frames generated by the game with your monitor’s refresh rate. This in addition to the fix mentioned above should allow you to get past the first campfire in the tropics. However, if that still does not do the trick, the last resort is to… look down when entering the tropics area. As silly as it may sound, this has allegedly helped some fans who were struggling with this issue. Remember that keeping drivers up to date also doesn’t hurt.
The developers from Landcrab studio do not hide their head in the sand, though, and claim that they are actively looking for a permanent fix for this problem. Hopefully, it won’t take them too long to come up with a solution. If you would like to stay up to date on this matter, as well as on this game’s development, check out this production’s official Discord server.
Despite the fact that Peak is not in Early Access, it still has its fair share of infancy challenges. Nevertheless, the creators seem to understand their priorities well and even though the demand to have this amazing title available on consoles is high, they have chosen to make it as polished as possible on their main platform, PC, first. Have fun!
